Building A Notion Template to Boost Your English Pronunciation Progress

So after some deliberation, I’ve decided I’m going to try and build a Notion template to help with accent modification and English language learning with the intention of implementing habit tracking, spaced retrieval, and other effective tools to provide a framework for how I would want clients and English language learners to apply themselves.

Organizing your English pronunciation progress can be a daunting task, during any stage of that process. Whether your a complete beginner, learning English through TV or movies or fully integrated into an English-speaking society, the next steps to progressing in your English pronunciation are never easy or straightforward.

To help you stay on track, I want to design a template in Notion, a powerful organizational tool that can help you track your progress, set goals, stay motivated, and to hold you accountable for actively organizing those things independently.

Here are some of my criteria.

  • It has to be easy - it has to be simple enough to use so that you actually use the template

  • It has to be convenient - it has to be quick and easily navigated so you aren’t obstructed by the learning curve

  • It has to be accessible - it has to be accessible by phone/computer so it can be used regularly and quickly

  • It has to be effective - it has help. If it is more work than it is useful then it’s not worth using.

I want the Notion template to be a good way to structure and frame up how people should think about English language learning, specifically pronunciation at this time. I can think about grammar and other things later on if this is a success but in the interim, keeping it small enough in scope is the priority.

Now, things I want it to be able to do include:

  • Identify trends for specific sounds you need help with (or at least present the information in a way to facilitate your identification of that trend)

  • Establish a routine or habit for practicing

  • Include a self-grading system to foster your own hearing and confidence in producing the sound

  • Act as a catch-all for whatever other collection of ideas/thoughts that would help you like random tips, meaningful stories or successful motivational events that keep you invested

The ultimate goal for this template would be so that you feel empowered to learn the language and have a platform that sets you up to do so.

As I try to develop and flush out the idea in more detail, hopefully you’ll follow me on this vested interest and we’ll see what we can develop.
